The Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (Beasiswa Kemitraan Negara Berkembang/KNB Scholarship) is an educational assistance program provided by the Government of Indonesia for international students from developing countries who wish to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degrees at higher education institutions in Indonesia. The program was first introduced at the 10th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit, held on 1–6 September 1992, and was awarded to students from NAM member countries starting the following year.
The KNB Scholarship offers international students the opportunity to study at reputable Indonesian universities while gaining firsthand experience of Indonesia’s diverse culture and dynamic social environment. Currently, the KNB Scholarship collaborates with 34 partner universities across Indonesia, offering a wide range of high-quality academic programs.
A. Application Procedure
Applicants must download the KNB Scholarship Offering Letter from the official website: https://knb.kemdiktisaintek.go.id
Applicants are required to contact the Indonesian Representative in their home country to submit the required administrative and academic documents. For applicants residing in India, the designated representative is the Education and Cultural Attaché, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi.
The required documents include:
a) Curriculum Vitae
b) Copy of a valid passport
c) English proficiency test results (for applicants from non–English-speaking countries)
d) Letter of recommendation from a direct supervisor or employer (in English or Indonesian)
e) Academic recommendation letter from the previous school or university (in English or Indonesian)
f) Diploma and academic transcripts from the previous level of education (in English or Indonesian), legalized by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s home country
g) Letter of recommendation from a prospective research supervisor at one of the KNB partner universities (for Doctoral applicants only)
h) Statement of Purpose explaining the study plan in Indonesia (for Doctoral applicants only), in English or Indonesian.
All documents must be submitted to the Indonesian Representative to obtain an official Letter of Recommendation.
Note:
Applicants cannot apply for the KNB Scholarship without a Letter of Recommendation issued by the Indonesian Representative in their home country.
The Indonesian Representative will review all submitted documents, including educational background, work experience (if any), and document authenticity, prior to issuing the Letter of Recommendation.
After obtaining the Letter of Recommendation, applicants may proceed with online registration through the official KNB Scholarship website: https://knb.kemdiktisaintek.go.id
Only Letters of Recommendation issued by the Indonesian Representative in the applicant’s home country will be accepted by the KNB Scholarship management. All required documents must be scanned in .jpeg or .jpg format, with a maximum file size of 300 KB per document.
B. Important Provisions
Each applicant is allowed to create only one registration account on the KNB Scholarship website. Applicants are advised to ensure that all documents are complete and accurate before finalizing the application process. The registration schedule and program implementation timeline will be announced later through the official KNB Scholarship website.
